Big storm last night. This is what 50 mph winds can do to your trees. Luckily nobody got hurt – it didn’t hit the house. Also, our 500 year old oak tree came though unscathed.

That was quick

I got a call at 5:40 this evening congratulating me on my acceptance to St. Edward’s University and inviting me to new student orientation tomorrow evening.

College update

After turning in my application to New College at St. Edwards University on April 17, I have been waiting for all of my transcript information to arrive there. Apparently there was some sort of a kerfuffle, given that my transcripts are under my maiden name and I am not. I’ve been a little frustrated with the process because I requested my UTSA transcript be sent on April 20, and they didn’t find it until just today. However, now my application is well and truly complete and should be heading towards the admission committee to see if they’re interested in allowing me to attend.

Happy thoughts appreciated.

Hedge games, in the first degree

Since it’s launched and the marketing has begin, I can mention that I was very lucky to be involved with the Hedge Games campaign for Dreamworks and HP, marketing the movie Over the Hedge. I vetted the puzzles being used in the contest (and you might have heard of the guy who wrote the puzzles!). It was a blast.

Go play and hurt your brain.

Good Morning, Tree Co.

Back in November I wrote a post about Good Mourning Tree Company who kept leaving flyers on my door. That post has been very popular on this website, garnering several search engine referrals from people looking for more information about the business.

Today we got another flyer. They’ve changed a bunch of information around so that the searchable terms have decreased. The company is now calling itself “Good Morning Tree Co.” (note the change of spelling) and all references to its felon owner, Sid Mourning, have been removed.

They’re still at the same telephone number: (512) 420-0733, although they’ve removed Sid Mourning’s 512-657-4349 number.

This is the company that came into my back yard, climbed the stairs over my garage, and left a flyer on the guest apartment door, as well as leaves countless reams of spamvertising on my front door. One time they left a flyer while we were out of town. For the next week we had that white banner on our front door proudly announcing that we were out of town. When I called Sid Mourning in a good-faith attempt to get his company to quit soliciting my house, he told me that nobody would rob my house and that I must have too much time on my hands.

The Butterfly Effect

We Netflixed the director’s cut of The Butterfly Effect. It was an excellent movie but I daresay even more depressing than Requiem for a Dream. If you’re going to rent it, I suggest you get the theatrical release rather than the director’s cut for from what I’ve read, it’s a bit less “I-want-to-drive-my-car-off-the-overpass-now”-ish.

That time of year part two

Earlier I wrote that the roaches are back. Well now the brown recluses are back. This is the biggest one we’ve seen in the house – easily the size of a quarter.

This is why we can’t buy you nice things

You might think one of my children snapped those poor bean plants in two, or maybe even a cat or a dog, but you’d be wrong. I killed them with my bare hands, and I have to explain it to my daughter when she comes home.
