RSS Nirvana

I’ve just now discovered the Joy of RSS. I fiddled around with my templates and updated my RSS 1.0 template. The 0.91 template is not updated, but it’s available here. If people still use this, let me know and I can tweak it for you. I’ll also put a link over on the right for the 1.0 template.

Actually, you’re doing 2.0, not 1.0, in your index.rdf file.

Originally (I’m not sure about current releases) Movable Type provided two RSS feeds: 0.9x in index.xml and 1.0 in index.rdf. I think people typically are upgrading the index.xml file to 2.0 and leaving index.rdf as 1.0. Here is a discussion on upgrading a Movable Type feed: http://feedvalidator.org/docs/howto/MovableType.html

RSS 1.0, which is an evolutionary dead end, really is RDF. RSS 2.0 isn’t.

That said, I’m not sure the name switching breaks anything other than convention. I’ve been using the index.rdf feed. It works fine for me and I’d prefer to get 2.0.

I’ve been thinking of replacing my index.rdf file with a static document that points to the RSS 2.0 feed in index.xml. That way I only need to maintain one feed and eliminate any confusion about it.

That is, until the ATOM syndication format comes into play. *sigh*
