In which she gets childish and taunts people

I forgot to mention about the times that I went out in Las Vegas with my new Louis Vuitton replica purse, I got all sorts of admiring stares, compliments, nudges, and whispered comments. According to some commenters on my previous pursal entry, I really need to have people think I’m so very rich and special and needing validation. Well I got all of the above, and you didn’t. Nanny nanny boo boo. And I won $3000 in one day, too. Neener neener neener. Perhaps I’ll take my winnings and buy me a real damn purse. Nyah.

On what news show was I hearing recently that “real mafias” are behind the counterfeit business? Maybe there should be ads like the “buy drugs — support terrorism” ones: “buy fake Louis Vuitton — support organized crime”.
Personally I have little sympathy for companies whose value is all in the logo so a cheap knock-off is indistinguishable from the real thing. But as the news show went on to point out, the counterfeiters have also gotten into faking items that are harder for most of us to check for authenticity, such as auto parts and medications (which they cut with the real drugs to foil simple tests).

I know I heard something a couple of years ago about the mob relabeling cheap baby formula as the expensive hypoallergenic stuff. That’s just freaking nasty, and could kill a baby. At least my purse won’t kill me… conceivably.
Most of the knockoff purses are made in China, and apparently the Chinese government is really cracking down on the manufacturers lately. People are scrambling for new suppliers, which may be why the prices for the fakes are going up.

When I hear that China is “really cracking down” on knockoffs, I assume it means that the authorities have used international pressure as an excuse to jack up the payoffs they receive from the counterfeiters.

I found a couple of message boards where people who import the fakes post. They claim that shipments are drying up, factories are being sealed off by police, and people are being arrested in China. ‘Course this is all third and fourth hand – take it as you will.

I just have to say, I’ve been dying for the real Murakami Speedy 30 Multicolore in black. People on eBay beat all I’ve seen, with their fakes at over $500.00. Not wanting to get ripped off paying $500+ for a replica on eBay…I’ve ventured into the underworld of AAA++ replicas. I feel like I need a shower. The hours spent begging for information on my order were NOT worth it. It’s been over 60 days now…no bag.
What a creepy, weird business to be in. I’ll never go there again. Just pick a site, type their name into Google with the word SCAM next to it and see the hits you get. People are getting taken right and left and lighting up the newsgroups. Jeeze!!
