Yay

**Update!** Wanna see my grades? 😀

It’s official: I have 219 points out of a possible 220 for my A-COMM 3301 course, Foundations of Organizational Communication. That’s a good, solid A, eh?

I went to see a very nice urologist on Friday (Dr. Jeffrey Kocurek, for those searching for a urologist in Austin; I do not recommend Dr. Elizabeth Houser for reasons listed in a previous post) and I have a tentative appointment on Thursday for a ureteroscopy, assuming I’m still uncomfortable and haven’t passed the stone on my own by then. Apparently it’s still right above the bladder. The lithotripsy that the other doctor scheduled me for only has a 65% success rate for stones in this area.

The ureteroscopy is similar to the horrible procedure the other doctor did on Monday, but I’ll be unconscious for it. Big difference. I’m still in pain from the first one. 🙁

Anyway, he gave me some Flomax, which is apparently a drug given to men with prostrate problems(!), and I took one yesterday and passed right out for about 5 hours. I think I’ll wait until bedtime tonight to take it.

Apparently I’ve also got another stone in my right kidney which is poised to cause serious problems as well, so I might end up doing the lithotripsy for that one. I’ve been reading some disturbing stuff about long-term consequences though, so I’m not sure if I’m comfortable with that.

Score!

I got my mini research paper score today. I received 40 out of 40 points! That puts me at 89/90 possible points for the class so far. Woohoo!

First results

I got my first (sort of) grade – 10 points out of 10 for the first week’s discussion. I’ve also written my first paper in years. It was actually kind of fun. I’m totally digging on this Omni Outliner program that came with my new MacBook Pro.

That was quick

I got a call at 5:40 this evening congratulating me on my acceptance to St. Edward’s University and inviting me to new student orientation tomorrow evening.

College update

After turning in my application to New College at St. Edwards University on April 17, I have been waiting for all of my transcript information to arrive there. Apparently there was some sort of a kerfuffle, given that my transcripts are under my maiden name and I am not. I’ve been a little frustrated with the process because I requested my UTSA transcript be sent on April 20, and they didn’t find it until just today. However, now my application is well and truly complete and should be heading towards the admission committee to see if they’re interested in allowing me to attend.

Happy thoughts appreciated.

Running the numbers

April 12, 2006 - 1:08 am 3 Comments

1.64 – My GPA when I left UT.

3.32 – My GPA when you take out all the classes I failed because I quit going to them.

192 – The total number of college hours I’ve taken including fails and drops.

60 – The number of college hours I failed because I was too lazy to go.

48 – The number of college hours I dropped.

84 – My number of transferable hours.

120 – The number of hours needed for a degree.

3 – The number of semesters I could conceivably graduate in (although I think 4 is more likely).

I started the application process for St. Edward’s University today. I sent them a transcript and opened an online application. I spoke with one of the New College people on the phone this morning and she said that a 2.0 GPA is required for transfer, but they can and do make exceptions for people like me who screwed around and want another chance as an adult. I need to write an essay about why my grades were so bad and how I’ve changed and submit my resume. The little “I hate authority” hairs are the slightest bit aquiver on the back of my neck, but I certainly don’t blame them, nor do I wish to make any trite excuses. In fact, I hope they’re not as hard on me as I am on myself. I fup duck big time, bad juju. Wasted time, wasted money, wasted respect.

Academia?

Am I nuts for thinking about this?
