Opinions wanted

I like movies that screw with your mind. Brazil, Closetland, Jacob’s Ladder, The Ring. I’ve seen a list of like movies and was wondering if any of them are worth it:

Vanilla Sky
Donnie Darko
13th Floor
The Game

Anyone seen these? Any good? If you want to play with your mind, what movie do you pick up? I said mind, people.

I’ve only seen Vanilla Sky, but it was really good. It is one of those movies where it doesn’t hurt to watch it twice.

One that may not play with your mind, but has a great twist at the end is The Usual Suspects.

vanilla sky was … interesting. it did play with your head, but not really in a very sophisticated way, imo. sort of like those movies that give an impossible scenario and then explain it by having it be someone’s dream. (that’s not the ending, but it felt the same way to me).

the game is the one with michael douglas, right? i don’t remember specific details, but that one was pretty good, as i remember.

dunno about the others. but make sure you also watch the count of monte cristo because swashbuckling is always a safe bet, and the guy who plays the count is cutie-patootie.

wait, it’s the rage was one that screwed with your head in a pulp fictionish way. not a total mindfuck, but definitely fascinating.

someone give me a guest contributor spot here, eh? next time i’ll email you 😛

The Game was really good, and it did mess with your mind in the sense that you keep changing your mind about what you thought was right.

Donnie Darko was very twisted with an extremely funny subplot involving Patrick Swayze 🙂

Never saw 13th Floor or Vanilla Sky but the hub saw the latter and almost demanded his money back.

how about “The House of Yes”?
    a great movie.

plus, who doesn’t want to marry parker posey?

I definately recommend Donnie Darko. Very good movie, and the song at the end is just wonderful.
If you want something to play with your head in a more like Seven or Silence of the Lambs, try Ed Guin. This movie is based on the life of an insane freak, and both Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Psyco were based on this guy’s life.

Vanilla sky… mmm better try to catch the original spanish version “Abre los ojos” (“open your eyes”), its really much better than the cruise one.

I enjoyed The Game the first time I saw it. 13th floor is interesting too.

But the fact is that if u already know that they are films that “play with your mind” (with surprising ending) you wont enjoy it as much as if you didnt know it.

    Regards from Spain.

  7. Raven Says:

The Game – VERY good film. Michael Douglas is stunning, as always, and even Sean Penn is stomachable. GREAT film.

Thirteenth Floor – assuming you’re talking about the 1999 production with Craig Bierko… a cast of relative unknowns for the most part, but this film really hooked me. I loved it. The atmosphere is great, the characters engaging. Some other people may compare it to another rather well known sci-fi film film released in the last couple of years, but I won’t spoil it for you, and you shouldn’t let it spoil it for you, either. Well worth the rental.

omg what retards all of those movies SUCK DICK. vanilla sky was the best of all the crap in the bucket you laid out though. you want a movie to fuck with ur head? take some acid and go watch the rugrats movie or spongebob square pants, then go see the matrix. youre probably too much of a pussy to do that though, and having read some of your entries you are obviously mentally challenged, so judging by your limited enjoyment capacity I would recommend vanilla sky. the game sucks its just like every other douglas movie where some retard is trying to kill his liberal ass all movie…but seriously who cares, if you need a movie to ‘mess with your head’ you dont have a life anyway, or you hate the one in which you are trapped, so what the fuk do i care

  9. Addlepated Says:

Hey Jesus, I’ve been wondering – what’s the “H” stand for?

  10. Roland Says:

    The H stands for “Haven’t-got-anything-better-to-do-than-make-pointless-and-immature-comments-on-people’s-blogs”.

    Probably.

  11. Kenneth Says:

The “H” stands for Harvey. Just an FYI.

Anyway, of the four you pointed out, I’ve heard that Donnie Darko is great in a Cubism-as-a-movie sort of way, and I thought the Game was great, except for a stupid payoff at the end. Still, worthy movie to see.

  12. Ivy Says:

Judging by one of the movies you mention that you liked (and I nearly said which one, but I won’t, since it’ll give the game away — but you’ll know the one I mean, after you see the movie), Donnie Darko will be most rewarding. Cheers!

  13. Ugg Says:

    I like those movies.
    But I love….
    Waking Life…Richard Linklater
    Insignifigance….?Director

I’ve watched so many….but Im stoned right now and I can’t remember the titles…. Check out any David Lynch movie that guys twisted…
“In the Mouth of Maddness” John Carpenter.

    There are just so many.

  14. jilltheripper Says:

I personally thought Vanilla Sky sucked! If you want to see a totally nude Tom Cruise humping some chick then you might like it. Oh and Penelope Cruze, however she spells her name, is such a BAD actress.

I haven’t seen any of the other movies. But some good ones I’ve seen are… The Others, very good. It’s got a really good ending. Fight Club, Idenity, The Ring, Seven…

Oh an unknown movie that’s very good Interstate 60.
