Weekend roundup

We watched a few movies this weekend. Punch Drunk Love, a Paul Thomas Anderson flick starring Adam Sandler. I loved it, and thought Sandler was incredible. Everyone else ranged from lukewarm to icy. Hub conceded that maybe he’d like it more if he watched it again.

Catch Me if You Can, with DiCaprio. Very good movie, entertaining, light, a happy way to spend a couple of hours.

The Hours, with Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, and Meryl Streep, was supposed to be a tour de force tearjerker and won Kidman an Oscar. I twiddled my fingers, fidgeted, and yawned through it. I thought it was a real yawner, although there were some moments that stuck with me (Kidman with the dead bird, Moore in the hotel room).

I’m falling out of love with Out of Order on Showtime.

We took the dogs swimming yesterday – Kona’s first swim. Cuervo is part otter; we have a hard time getting him out of the water, but Kona is ten times worse. When she wasn’t swimming, she was sitting in the water. Then today we visited some of my family in San Antonio and the dogs went swimming in two different swimming pools. I bet they sleep well tonight. Cuervo decided to dine in the trash pit all weekend and had the pukes yesterday, at which time it really hit home that the ranch house was out of paper towels. Cleaning up a mound of dog puke with paper napkins is not a pretty sight, folks.

We’re home now, and set to pick up the girls tomorrow. Jo, the 3 year old, wanted to stay longer, but Caroline, the 1.5 year old, wants to come home.

I got totally frustrated while shooting. Hub had the sights on his Glock redone, and I could not get the hang of them to save my life. I mean, I could not hit the target from 7 yards away. That’s bad. Maybe I should just get my own and get sights the way I like them. I did enjoy shooting the Uzi quite a lot, and the new Aimpoint sights on my AR-15 almost makes it too easy to be insanely accurate. We took some glow sticks out to the trash pit last night and I hammered the hell out of them, hitting them probably 30 out of 32 shots. That was fun.

Next stop is for my AR-15, in order to make it look absolutely ludicrous. As it is, now it’s olive green and highly decorated with happy faces and peace signs.

And speaking of guns, make sure to clear your calendar for GunStock 2003, near Waco, TX on October 10-12. Hub and I will be there with bells on!
