Rowdy neighbors

Check out my sweet little girly gun and all her rowdy neighbors.

From left to right: full-auto Uzi, Dissipator AR-15, The Pink Lady, full-auto Mac 11/9, and a really pimped-out AK.

Ever wonder what the business end of a bunch of guns is like?

There were a lot of fun toys out there last weekend.

Update

This past weekend I spent with hub and a couple hundred friendly gun nuts 15 miles east of Waco at Gunstock. We had a fantastic time, despite some glitches, and fully plan on doing that again and as much as possible. If you live in the Central Texas area and are looking for a place to shoot, you definitely need to try TIGER Valley out. They have a 1000 yard range that I’m itching to try. Words can’t describe how great the owners are.

In the meantime I was hit by the Lolita spammer, and hit hard. I’ve downloaded the MT-Blacklist plugin, but have to wait until my help ticket to install the Storable.pm module goes through. I may also add an image system that requires you to enter the number from the image in the form. This is hard on blind users, but they are welcome to email comments to me and I can post for them. 125+ spam comments over 4 days is completely out of control.

Anybody home?

We have been out of town more often than not for the past couple of weeks. Last weekend and the weekend before we went to the ranch. Dove hunting season opened up, so we went out ready and willing to take a ton of birds, but since neither one of us has hunted doves in a few years, we ended up killing far more ammo than birdies. Cuervo was very excited to be out retrieving again. Kona, it turns out, is gunshy. We’re going to have to acclimate her to loud noises. Funnily enough she really doesn’t seem to care for fully automatic gunfire. Can’t imagine why.

Today we went out to see my aunt and uncle’s new ranch in the hill country. What a beautiful view… I can’t even begin to describe it. Up on top of a hill is a view that stretches for at least 20 miles (you can see the town in the distance), and has a perfect shot of the sun setting in the saddle of two tall hills. Ojalá que I had a camera. There’s also a mysterious cave in the ground, with the half-moon opening too small to accept my bloated body. Shining a flashlight in there shows some stalactites and stalagmites, though.

The weather today was outrageous. High around 82, clear and dry. This is my very favorite kind of weather. The leaves are starting to turn a little yellow; a reminder of death and birth and life all wrapped up in the subtle change of a tint.

While we were 2.5 hours away from home tonight, my cell rang – the alarm company, calling to tell me that the alarm went off at the house and police were on the way. They called back 30 minutes later to say that they think the dog set it off. Turns out a cat was locked in the kitchen and knocked a cooking pot off the counter.

I’ve got to get on the ball regarding the JournalCon! Things have been so hectic that I haven’t really had a chance to do much of anything. Including update my blog. Sorry.

Happy Fun Gun Time!

Did you think I was kidding about my pink AR-15? I wasn’t. Click the thumbnail for a bigger view.

Pow

Today we headed north of town to a gun range, where we met up with a bunch of people and shot guns all day. We got to the range around 10:30 and stayed until they closed at 5. Luckily we brought a canopy for shade, since there wasn’t a shelter in sight and it was around 100 degrees. At one point I thought I was about to pass out – I couldn’t breathe and I stopped sweating. Bad. Chugged 2 bottles of water and let the car AC blast me – better. For the second time, hub broke a pair of Flexon(tm) unbreakable glasses. The boy has talent.

I’m pretty disturbed by the fact that for the past 4 months, I’m shooting low with every single handgun that I try. Normally I’m a very good shot. I can’t fathom what’s gone wrong. I don’t feel like I’m flinching, I don’t feel like my stance or grip have changed, I’m making a conscious effort to put the front sight dot on top of what I’m aiming at. I’m low at short and long distances. I’ve tried slow and fast trigger pulls. Today at 25 yards I shot a nice group, maybe around 8 inches around, 8 inches underneath the bullseye. This is so frustrating to me! It’s making me really discouraged. Luckily I’m still a dead aim with a rifle. Hopefully all is not lost. I’m just going to have to get a group of people watch me shoot (hello, nervous) and critique me. What a bummer.

Moore hacked

Someone hacked Michael Moore’s website. Here’s what it says:

Mr. Moore, your documentary “Bowling for Columbine” is fictitious, not factual. David Hardy’s Truth About Bowling is simply damning. You deliberately deceive your viewers, who are only expecting a slightly biased factual report. Mr. Moore, my personal hope is that you publicly apologize, not for your ideas, but for dubbing your lies the truth.

Kid banned from school

Don’t throw Chinese food at cops, lest they shoot at you.

Gun safety rant on:

Here’s the worst part of what is wrong with the previous story… not that the cop flipped off a civilian, or even that he fired because he “thought he was under attack”. Read this:

However, the sheriff also said he didn’t think Anderson had time to get a good line of sight but “fired and hoped they’d go away.”

It is essential in firearm safety that you know your target and your backstop. The dumbass cop could have shot anyone – a kid, a nun, your mother, anyone – if he wasn’t aiming properly. And the sheriff doesn’t seem to have a big problem with it.

Remember, kids – gun control is hitting your target.
