Ugh

June 7, 2004 - 11:45 pm 1 Comment

I’ve been sick as a dog since we got home. Two days after we flew back I started running a 101 degree fever for a few days. Monday night I had an earache so bad that I was in tears and making comparisons to labor (which is better because at least you get a break at regular intervals). Tuesday I went to see the doc who let out a low whistle when he saw my eardrum and said it was just about perforated (I think it finally blew later that afternoon). It was leaking blood and I was about ready to stick a skewer in my ear. Since then I’ve been on major steroids and antibiotics, one of which is giving me heart palpitations, and the ringing in my ear is deafening. I really hope I recover my hearing, because this sucks. The left side is fine, but it’s like I’ve got a tinny little speaker with bad feedback on my right side. We’re making plans to go to Bulletfest in two weeks and I’m a little nervous about how loud it will be, seeing as how the kids hollering is enough to make we want to cry.

Farewell, Gipper

RIP, President Reagan. I found a picture online earlier this afternoon that has me in it. I was in New Orleans in 1988 for the Republican National Convention and was one of the cheerers with homemade signs, and we had no designated seating, so for all the speeches we got to sit on the floor directly in front of the podium. An awesome experience, to be sure.

I’m on the bottom right, two left of the guy with the tie who’s looking up.

May the good Lord bless and keep you, Mr. President.

Peoria Pundit

Hey all,

At Bill Dennis’s request, this entry is to let you know that the Peoria Pundit weblog is alive and well, but has changed addresses. He was having some hosting problems, with which I can certainly sympathize, being a refugee from the debacle that was Featureprice.

Bah

It’s interesting. Normally we get a ton of mail and catalogs every day. After my note to the mailman the other day, we only got one envelope. I’ll bet the rest went into the trash.

Oh and I found another brown recluse in the house yesterday.

Anger

The stupid slack-jawed boogerfaced postman brought us someone else’s mail again. The only thing our address had in common with the other one is the street number and zip code. Soon I imagine we will be getting mail for everyone in Austin who has the same street number that we do.

I wrote a big black all-caps message on the envelope: WRONG ADDRESS. PLEASE START CHECKING ADDRESS VS. STREET

Like that will make a difference.

You know what else? In the past month a cockroach has come in with the mail twice. I think his dumbshitness is planting roaches in the mailbox.

Ghostwatch

I ordered a copy of Ghostwatch off of eBay a few weeks back and never got around to watching it until tonight. It was good. It was really good. It was really scary, and I am a very tough customer in that regard. The ending completely blew me away.

On Halloween 1992, the BBC presented this program (or is it programme?) as a live, real story and prompted a panic like unto the broadcast of War of the Worlds in 1938. Three recognized, well-respected journalists took roles in the story. It would be like if Tom Brokaw, Greta Van Susteren, and I dunno – Geraldo Rivera, maybe, appeared as themselves in a program that was apparently real. The simple fact of their involvement lent the program instant validity.

I highly recommend the program. Go get yourself a copy ASAP. eBay and Amazon UK both have it.

I saw this at easy bake coven and it intrigued me.

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 23.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.

“June is the driest of the summer months, July the warmest, and August generally the rainiest money of the brief summer, but warmer than June.”

Which is a nice segue to what I was going to say tonight anyway. We’ve made our vacation plans for the year. We’re going to Alaska for a week in May! We’ll be staying at the Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge and the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge. Rather than try to go nuts and do everything in a week, I decided to make it an honest vacation and make it a relaxed pace. That way we’re not packing and unpacking every day. We’ll have coastal activities (salmon and halibut fishing, Prince William Sound) and mountain activities (hopefully one of the three days will be clear enough to see Denali and do some flightseeing).

Purse search

BTW if anyone knows of a nice concealed carry purse that isn’t horrible, lemme know. The closest I’ve found is Coronado Leather. There’s a Galco that looks somewhat like a Dooney and Bourke, but that style of purse encourages me to be cluttered. I just love the croc skin on the Athena tote, but that’s way too big. If they made that doctor style with the croc skin, I’d be all over it. Fun Gun Purses, while interesting, do not look very durable.

Suggestions?
