Yes!

October 26, 2004 - 12:36 am Comments Off on Yes!

Yes, I am alive! I’ve been horribly busy lately and my time has been taken up with two major projects:

Gunstock was a 3 day shooting event just east of Waco that I did a great deal of planning on and helped to run.

Dread House was an Alternate Reality Game that 5 other people and I put on over the course of several months. We started planning in March, launched it in July, and wrapped it today. It was an incredible experience and I was so fortunate to work with the talented people behind the scenes. I got to practice my web design skills (I designed the pages here, here, here, and here) and writing skills (like the stories on here). I’m already going a little nuts without a project to do.

Anyway, so I’m around, just been underground and swamped.

More creatures

We had to put Maddie to sleep on Monday. Her kidney failure had made her really sick. Max was quite depressed and so we got him a kitten who is not yet named. Today I heard them both upstairs doing that feline victory cry thing and I thought it was because they were playing. Turns out they weren’t – they killed a scorpion in the bathroom.

The new kitten is a little girl, an ebony ticked tabby Oriental Shorthair. She’s got stunning green eyes and is absolutely lovealicious. She and Max are getting along smashingly.

BTW if you’re interested in kid pics, I’ve got some here.

Brand slaves

Last night we went out for ice cream. I saw two high school girls walking up – I placed them as sophomores or juniors. One girl had on a pair of $140 jeans and a $125 track jacket and was clutching a $500 Louis Vuitton wallet. The other girl kept flaunting her $500 Louis Vuitton Speedy 25. And you know what? I got mad. Really mad. What the hell possessed that girl’s parents to have them buy her all this crap and parade around in $800 dollars worth of clothes and accessories? What kind of values will that instill in her? Is she the one who has one of the Hummers in the high school parking lot?

There were girls at my high school with that particular Louis Vuitton bag, and I always wanted one. My mom refused to buy it, much like she refused to buy me the Polo shirts and $50 Calvin Klein jeans that I asked for. But you know what? As much as I hated it at the time, I’m so thankful that she did. I’m 34 years old and I still want that bag, but I’m too cheap to buy it for myself. Perhaps someday I will, but right now I think I’m pretty happy with my life the way it is now.

The vague but impassioned rant

I can’t stand rude people. If it were up to me I would round them up and shoot them. Having to smile and put on a nice face in the face of rudeness gives me ulcers. I’m very likely to snap.

The other day I was walking out to the garage and stepped over the bungie cord that my husband left on the stairs, silently cursing him because I could have tripped on it and broken my head. Then the bungie cord slithered into the flowerbed.

Yesterday my husband was cleaning out the garage and (after having found a suspiciously brown recluse-y looking spider) bent over to pick up the bungie cord on the floor and the bungie cord raised its head and flicked its tongue at him.

I hope our bungie cord stays around. He looks like he’s just the right size to take care of the waterbugs.

Why yes, it is a pyramid referral thing

This is a referral pyramid thing, but people have been getting free iPods and flatscreen TVs from it. Here’s what you do. You click on the link. You sign up with a valid email address. You register and click on the eBay link, then sign up for that (it’s ok if you have another eBay account, just sign up for one) and bid on something. You can place a $1 bid on a Ferrari for all it matters.

Then you send the links out to your friends, get them to do the same. You need 5 referrals for the iPod, 8 for the TV.

Free Flatscreen TV.
Free iPod.

I’ve never ever done anything like this before and feel slightly greasy, but it’s not like I’m forcing anyone into it. But oh please please please sign up! Heh. Kidding. Do it if you like, it might be fun.

What the?

We’re watching this show on the History Channel about hygiene. Apparently on the Space Station and Shuttles they bring pottie waste back to Earth.

Why?

It had only been about 18 months since my last haircut. I got about 8 inches cut off, base color changed to real auburn (rather than the pinky red drugstore dye), and got blonde highlights. The kids keep asking if I am me.
