Your quest to ruin Sid Mournings life has came to my attention. Have you ever wondered if he has children? Have you ever wondered if you are hurting his daughter? Well we are here to ruin your life regardless if he has children or not. We know where you work, we know where you live, we know your telephone number, we know that you have two girls, did I forget to mention last night around 9:30 we were parked outside of your house? If you don’t stop your wrongful slander we will do the same to you.

XOXO

New feature: Mondegreens

February 15, 2008 - 4:54 pm Comments Off on New feature: Mondegreens

A mondegreen is a misheard or misspelled phrase. It’s interesting to me to see the different sayings that people mangle, and makes me wonder if it is because we’ve evolved from an oral history->written history->back to oral history. So I figured I’d collect some of the ones I read on various internet fora, since I spend a (probably unhealthily) large amount of time on them.

To start out with:
“In this day in age” should be “In this day and age”
“Construction criticism” should be “Constructive criticism”
“One in the same” should be “One and the same”

What are your favorites?

Disturbing trend

I know of two large online communities (in the tens of thousands of users) that have disabled the ability to privately message or email other users, and have outlawed the discussion of personal contact information on the boards. This seems to me to be defeating the purpose of a community per se, by not allowing connections to happen organically and grow to possible real-life friendships or networking. It also adds yet another layer of anonymity? Non-accountability? If you KNOW you’re never going to be held accountable for your online posts in real life, why bother to be helpful?

I read a thread of an attempted real-life meetup from one of those boards, where, since they were unable to share cell numbers or exchange names, it failed miserably and those people who tried to make it were discouraged.

Information is like water. It seeks its own level. If it is blocked in one direction, it will make another path – one that those board owners won’t be able to control so easily.

How to spend a relaxing Saturday evening

February 9, 2008 - 8:19 pm 2 Comments

1. Be working on a research paper due Monday.

2. Look in the dog kennel. Discover just the cap of what appears to be silicon sealant. Do not find the rest of the tube.

3. Also, while attempting to fix computers seeing each other on the home network, do something to your computer’s permissions that render it basically inoperable.

4. Realize it’s 8:00, the husband’s at the emergency vet with the puppy, the kids haven’t eaten, so call for a pizza. Have them tell you they can’t deliver for an hour.

5. Attempt to repair computer permissions, fail. Have to reinstall the whole bloody mess.

Sorry, there was a typo in my title. BECAUSE THIS IS NOT RELAXING. AT ALL.

The next step in Good Morning Tree Company’s evolution!

February 6, 2008 - 9:27 pm 2 Comments

Good Mourning Tree Co. (or Good Mourning Tree Co.) has evolved! Woohoo!

They have gone from littering my house to littering my blog!

Well hey, at least they’re not killing trees for the paper to advertise now. Hyuck hyuck.

I find it amusing that the name in the email address they used three times is the same name that’s in one of their recent favorable Citysearch reviews. Funny how a rash of happy customers started showing up there around October, after multiple one-star reviews previously (except for the guy who admitted he worked there and rated himself tops).

On a side note, if my house is ever vandalized or I get murdered in my sleep or something, please don’t forget about these posts.

I hate insomnia

I hate woulda shoulda coulda. I hate my Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday morning quarterbacking. I hate the fact that my heart’s permanently embedded in my sleeve. I wish I were a tough guy.

It’s been a bad week. Caroline’s over the flu but she’s acquired temper-itis and I’m having a hard time keeping my cool. Someone also recently by total surprise showed me that what I thought was a good friendship is apparently just a parasitic relationship and guess who the host is. I’m sucked dry baby, dry. Add some other disappointments and stress along the way and I’m ready for a good crying jag.

On the plus side, this is my last semester of college and no matter how much I’m doing this to prove/please others, I realize that I’m doing it most of all for myself. About 75% convinced to stay on for my Master’s.

Tito has developed a sudden and overwhelming fear of me for some reason and pisses himself when he thinks I’m mad at him. This is the dog I put in my lap and cuddle all the time, all 40 lbs of him. Talk about a vicious cycle; I can’t even holler at him to stop peeing until he gets outside.

I think maybe we all have cabin fever. I should go watch The Shining. And buy some Calgon.

That’s special

I just went through Fantastico on my webhost to see if there were any old, unused webapps I could uninstall. I get this urge to tidy up my directories once in a while. Turns out there were a couple of old forums I had that I didn’t use, so I told Fantastico to uninstall them.

It deleted the wrong database.

So I lost the database for the forum I’ve been running for 4 years now.

My most recent backup was in June.

I’m pissed off. Fantastico sucks.

Happy Hacksgiving

On Thursday morning, as I was checking mail from my in-laws’ house, I got an end-of-auction win notice from eBay. The problem is that I didn’t bid on any $250 PSP. Around that time I started getting a bunch of email bounce notifications. Apparently someone hacked my eBay account, which I guess had the same password as my email account, and not only placed bids with one, but sent out thousands of spam mails with the other. Both were shut down. A frustrating situation once we got to the ranch and I only had access through my cell phone. Hopefully have it cleared up now. Happy Thanksgiving to you too, you stupid Nigerian spammer.
