On Boobs

August 5, 2002 - 12:08 am 7 Comments

The strangest thing just happened to me. It’s pretty gross, too, so you may want to finish eating first. It’s about my boob, but not in a good way.

For the past couple of months I’ve noticed this blue spot on the side of my boob. It would kind of go away when I pressed on it, so I figured it was some damn sort of varicose vein or something. Tonight I noticed that it was angry looking and that there was a black thing poking out. I got worried that maybe it was a tick or something that died and was in me, and that’s just gross, so I picked and picked until I could pull it out.

It was a stitch. I had breast reduction surgery in 1992. They gave me “dissolving” stitches. This one didn’t dissolve. That means that this damn thing has been in me for ten years, working its way out.

All together now: ewwwwwwwwww.

Oh, the shame. We rented Royal Tennenbaums and J&SB, have only watched RT, and both movies are sitting on my desk, a couple of weeks overdue. I’m trying the “ignore it and it will go away” approach that always didn’t work well at all when I had overdue movies (and resulted in my owing Blockbuster some $150 in late fees on a couple of different occasions).

Nasty

I just walked up the stairs and it smells like a piss bomb went off in the bedroom. There was some pee on the bed last night, so I changed the sheets and put Nature’s Miracle on the mattress. Then all night last night I kept waking up and smelling pee. I thought maybe the blanket I put on had been peed on, so I took that out. The smell is getting worse and worse. I just sent hub to buy a blacklight (to find pee stains, I can’t find mine and I knew we had it over here at one point, dammit) and more Nature’s Miracle (enzymatic cleaner, totally neutralizes pee smell) and another cat box to put up there.I hope I can get it de-smelled before tonight because there is no way in hell that I am going to sleep up there. It’s frigging nasty.

Luckily the 2 yo’s room is stink-free. The baby sleeps with us so we’ll be nomads together.

Time for the Friday Five!

1. What is your lineage? Where are your ancestors from?
I’m a true mongrel. I have ancestors from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Germany, Spain, and a tiny bit of French (very small, please don’t hold it against me).

2. Of those countries, which would you most like to visit?
I’d love to visit any of them. Except maybe France. I’ve been wanting to go to Wales since I read Susan Cooper’s The Dark is Rising series.

3. Which would you least like to visit? Why?
Well, France. Do you really need a reason?

4. Do you do anything during the year to celebrate or recognize your heritage?
Yes, I celebrate the Fourth of July because no matter where my ancestors came from hundreds of years ago, I am an American.

5. Who were the first ancestors to move to your present country (parents, grandparents, etc)?
The most recent to move here that I know of were my father’s grandparents. From what I’ve read, they met on the ship as they sailed to America and they fell in love. I can trace back to the Mayflower in the 1600s and the Canary Islanders in the 1700s, as well as the Quaker movement who came over with William Penn in the 1700s.

A Hairy Question

I’ve been reading the blogs of those linked to me, and looking at pictures and stuff, and it seems that I have a high number of redheaded readers. This coincides with my real life experiences, where most of my friends have been redheads. I added a poll to the sidebar – please let me know what your hair color is.

Friday Five

1. How long have you had a weblog? Since April of this year, although I had been meaning to start one for a long time before I actually did. It was M.S. who finally sent me over the edge towards blogdom.
2. What was your first post about? My first post was announcing my intentions to start a blog. Duh. My first post with any content was describing a weird dream I had. You can read them both here.
3. How many changes (name, location, etc.) of your weblog have there been, if more than one? I changed from “My Schtuff” to “Fresh, Hot Wastes of Time”, and I bought the domain name of addlepated.net in the middle of May.
4. What CMS (content management system) do you use? Do you like it or do you want to try something else? I just switched from Blogger to Movable Type and I’m really happy I did. I like not having to depend on another server to be up, and I haven’t had a post munged since I switched. It’s a total bitch to set up but ultimately worth it.
5. Do you read people who have both a journal and a weblog? Or do you prefer to read people who have all of their writing in one central place? Yes, I read both. I have varied interests. My daily reads include all of the blogs on the sidebar, as well as Fark, Metafilter, and Blogdex, which are all sort of community blogs.

A Sticky Situation

I will not bore you with details on how the bottle in the water cooler has a crack in it and leaked a couple of gallons of water onto the office floor.

Nor will I bore you with details on how the 2 year old busted me turning out her light and closing her door last night when I thought she was asleep and she cried and made hub sleep with her on the floor of the office. In the puddle.

Instead I will tell you about the 10 month old, who found a bowl of honey that had been left on my desk while said 2 y.o. and I were taking a nap.

Honey is, apparently, a delightfully squishy thing to play with. Guess who’s getting a bath tonight?

Me Amazon

Ironically enough, after M.S.’s cryptic phone call regarding her unexpected Amazon booty, I got a package from Amazon in the mail today. It was just something I had ordered a couple of days ago and not a gift from a secret admirer.

Speaking of M.S., can anyone explain why her link never shows up as visited on my sidebar?
